PRESS RELEASE: The Center for Animal Research and Education (CARE) welcomed the aid of 25 members of Sheppard Air Force Base located in Wichita Falls, Texas. This volunteer force, called the “Wizards”, came equipped with rakes, shovels, weed eaters and most precious of all- the strength to get the work done. The group from the 80th Operations Support Squadron, under the command of the 80th Flying Training Wing, were organized to action by SSgt Ingrid Ivey and Major Adam Groves. The Wizards dedicate many hours to those who need their help.
Leading the CARE volunteer team was Senior Airman Derek Krahn, Senior Volunteer who also serves as President on CARE’s board of directors, Karen Bayla (CARE Senior volunteer) and Emily Merola (CARE Intern) and Staff Sergeant Anthony Marks. CARE is a non-profit
organization that gives a home to 53 lions, white and orange tigers, black,
spotted and snow leopards and cougars. “We are in the process of clearing
and fencing off new areas in order to take in those cats that so desperately
needs our help. We have not been able to give any cat a home for 2 years
because of the lack of both space and funding. These great people from
Sheppard are helping clear the way for the future of CARE.” says Heidi
Berry, CARE’s Executive Director. This is the second year for the “Wizards” to help CARE. Their tasks this year include; painting new housing structures, cleaning enclosures and clearing the fields for new enclosures. This all day event left everyone tired but satisfied. The “Wizards” have changed the lives of the big cats for yet another year. We would like to also thank Carl and Mike Miller of Paradise for extensively clearing the work path with their equipment.
