Center for Animal Research and Education has reached a critical time! Like many zoos and sanctuaries around the country, CARE is feeling the pain of decreased donations. The big cats of CARE need your help! Remember all donations are 100% tax-deductible. Please read below to learn more about CARE's current critical needs and how you can help...because without YOU there is no CARE!
Financial Donations
Financial donations are a must if CARE is to survive through these rough times. 100% of your financial donation will be utilized directly to the cats care; medication, veterinary care, electricity and food, including transportation of food. Click here to donate.
Facts:
CARE’s electric bill can exceed $1,500 per month
CARE’s veterinary bill often exceeds $500 to $1,000 per month
CARE’s food bill (including transportation) exceeds 2,000 per month
CARE’s medication bills can be as high as $1,000 per month
Material Donations
We also are always in need of certain supplies, such as...bleach, chicken, rakes, shovels, twin size sheets, paper towels, toilet paper, ground turkey, cleaning supplies, stuffed animals and water hoses to name a few. Facts:
CARE uses about 35 gallons of bleach per week.
CARE’s elderly enjoy beds, blankets pillows and stuffed animals.
CARE uses 40 one pound tubes of ground turkey each week to give daily medications.
CARE utilizes about 100 pounds of chicken per week just for cleaning treats.
CARE’s public bathrooms and intern areas are in constant need of cleaning supplies.
Large Operating
Donations
Our large donation items are a new freezer compressor, cooling system and door totaling $5,000. A terribly needed water well; both of our wells can hardly water the cats on a hot day. Many swimming pools had to sit empty this summer, which has been miserable in the 100+ degree temperature. New water well is estimated at $5-10,000. Help with solar power or other alternate energies is needed. This will decrease the demand for high priced electricity. Any suggestions are welcome. Facts:
The big cats 45 water buckets have to be dumped and refilled 3 times a day in the summer.
This half hour job now requires 3 hours for each watering, wasting 7 ½ hours of labor a day.
CARE’s freezer is now 10 years old. Failure of a full freezer costs CARE over $1,000.
CARE’s freezer has failed 3 times in the past year.
The freezers door has holes decreasing efficiency and increasing electric cost.
Finding electric alternatives would help CARE greatly in self-sufficiency.
